14/12/07: Full protptype finished, uploading images soon together with the new 3d demo. Have plan on making it on request as soon as testing is finished.

DESCRIPTION

This a very short description and will be updated soon with more details.

This project is about 3d hand tracking and interfacing it with a PC. (No Wii or Wiimote are used)

I've seen some projects around that do use a Wiimote for IR tracking,
that is a cool idea, and make me think about posting this project i have
been working on in the past month.

This project tracks movements of 2 hands, 6 points tracking using
very simple hardware and easy to make software. I will upload more detailed
images and videos (the current one is of very low quality) in the following days.

It is really inexpensive compared to commercial solutions, but even if it is
in prototype stage, it shows to work very good.

If someone will be interested in producing this just mail me at madaeon@gmail.com.

hard

The hardware consists in 2 units: the tracked system (fig. 1) an image acquisition unit (fig.2)
The Image acquisition unit is a normal Webcam which has its IR filter removed, and an advanced visible light filter added, so it can capture only IR light.
The tracked system consists basically in some IR leds embedded on a finger mount. This gives more precision and range instead of other system, like simple reflectors.

soft

The software converts the input in 2 tridimensional points that are used for interfacing
with custom designed applications.

Example of applications that can benefit of this tracking system are 3d gaming, media browsing, 3d modelling and viewing, and many more.
